Powerful Outcomes in Wellness, Education, & Recreation (POWER) is an after school program that has been recognized for excellence throughout Region 8 (Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Ventura, and Kern Counties). We’ve been invited numerous times to present at conferences across our region and state, and have been highlighted and visited by many different after school entities. We provide safe, effective, innovative, & engaging learning, nutrition, and physical activity programs for DUSD students in grades TK-8.

Parents, please make sure to check the grade levels on classes before registering.
Please note that students that register for classes later than 2:30pm will have to be picked up after school and dropped off for their class unless they attend the after school POWER program.

Science Fair Club
🔬 Calling All 4th & 5th Grade Scientists! 🧪
Are you curious? Creative? Ready for a challenge?
We’re looking for 4th and 5th grade students who want to take part in this year’s SCIENCE FAIR! 🚀🌎🧲🧬
This is your chance to ask an interesting question, design an experiment, collect data, and share what you discover. You’ll get to think like a real scientist and create a project you can be proud of!
⚠️ Before You Sign Up...
The Science Fair is FUN—but it is also a serious commitment.
Scientists who join will need to:
🔎 Choose a strong scientific question.
🧪 Plan and complete an experiment.
📊 Collect, organize, and analyze data.
📝 Keep track of their research and results.
🎨 Create a clear, high-quality display.
🗣️ Practice explaining and presenting their project.
⏰ Commit time after school to complete their projects (don’t skip any meetings!)
💪 Stay responsible and keep working—even when the experiment gets challenging!
Signing up means you are committing to completing the entire project and meeting all Science Fair deadlines.

Shelf Care Club
Join our Shelf Care Club after school! This is a quiet and cozy time for all readers to enjoy books and grow their reading skills. 3rd Grade Battle of the Books participants can use this time to prepare for upcoming competitions. Other students can relax with a good book, take AR quizzes, or work on Lexia to boost their reading progress. Come read, learn, and have fun with friends who love books as much as you do!

How to Draw
Students will follow how to videos to draw characters, cute foods, cartoons, and fun objects. Each student will have their own drawing pad and set of dual tip markers. In addition to drawing, students will get mini lessons on the subjects of the drawing videos. We also create canvases to hide for Art Hunts.

This course will provide students the opportunity to explore a variety of sports, cooperative games, and PE activities in a fun and supportive environment. Students will learn fundamental movement skills and sport-specific techniques, while developing teamwork and sportsmanship.

Beginning Diamond Painting
A beginner’s diamond art course is designed to introduce new crafters to the art of diamond painting — a relaxing, no‑experience‑needed hobby that creates shimmering, mosaic‑like artwork using tiny resin “diamonds” placed on a pre‑printed adhesive canvas

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Practice and Choeography
Students will explore acting, movement, music, and creative expression through engaging, hands-on activities. They will build confidence by practicing performance skills, working collaboratively with classmates, and participating in rehearsals. We will be working on Charlie the Chocolate Factory musical.

Battle of the Books Prep
Are you ready to put your reading skills to the test? Battle of the Books Prep is a fun but challenging course for 4th–5th grade students who love to read and are ready for a reading challenge! Students will read 20 chapter books, memorize titles and authors, and be prepared to recall important events, characters, and plot details from each book. If you love books, enjoy a challenge, and are ready to become a true book expert, sign up for Battle of the Books Prep!
