Powerful Outcomes in Wellness, Education, & Recreation (POWER) is an after school program that has been recognized for excellence throughout Region 8 (Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Ventura, and Kern Counties). We’ve been invited numerous times to present at conferences across our region and state, and have been highlighted and visited by many different after school entities. We provide safe, effective, innovative, & engaging learning, nutrition, and physical activity programs for DUSD students in grades TK-8.

Parents, please make sure to check the grade levels on classes before registering. Please note that students that register for classes later than 2:30pm will have to be picked up after school and dropped off for their class unless they attend the after school POWER program.

  • STEM Olympiad/Games

    Do you enjoy math? Do you love competition? Then this is the Power Plus session for you! We will compete against other 4th and 5th graders in Bakersfield doing exciting math competitions. Must be available May 3rd (@Liberty High school in Bakersfield, bus will be provided) for competition.

  • Arts & Crafts and Games

    Arts and crafts play an important role in relieving stress and making you feel calm, composed and relaxed. As you make new artistic creations, your brain is occupied and any stress or negative thoughts can melt away. For example, textile crafts such as crafting or painting require focused attention and help take your mind off any worries. The repetition involved also has a therapeutic, calming effect.

  • AR Literacy & Computer Games

    Accelerated Reader helps create a culture of reading through engagement, choice, and celebration of reading achievement. When students feel successful as readers, they are motivated to read more, and they read more widely, which in turn supports building critical word recognition and language comprehension skills. Reading abilities greatly impact student performance across all subject areas, and students who read more are more confident and skilled readers in all reading environments.
