Del Vista Dragons

Powerful Outcomes in Wellness, Education, & Recreation (POWER) is an after school program that has been recognized for excellence throughout Region 8 (Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Ventura, and Kern Counties). We’ve been invited numerous times to present at conferences across our region and state, and have been highlighted and visited by many different after school entities. We provide safe, effective, innovative, & engaging learning, nutrition, and physical activity programs for DUSD students in grades TK-8.

Parents, PLEASE make sure to check the grade levels BEFORE registering. Please note that students that register for classes later than 2:30 pm will have to be picked up after school and dropped off for their class unless they attend the after school POWER program.

  • Reading and Math Intervention

    Students will receive additional support in reading and math. Students will work on mastering all uppercase and lowercase letters along with their corresponding sounds. Students will also work on recognizing number 0-20 and counting to 20.

  • Math Power-Up

    Math can sometimes feel tricky. Join Math Power-Up to help 5th graders strengthen important math skills and build confidence! Students will practice the essential skills they need to succeed in 5th grade math, including place value, multiplication, and fractions. Through hands-on activities, games, problem-solving challenges, and small-group practice, students will learn strategies that make challenging math concepts easier to understand.

  • Active Achievers

    Active Achievers is an engaging after-school PE intervention program designed to help students strengthen their physical fitness, movement skills, and confidence through fun, structured activities. Students will participate in games, fitness challenges, skill-building activities, and teamwork exercises that focus on improving coordination, balance, endurance, strength, agility, and overall physical activity. The goal of Active Achievers is to provide students with extra opportunities to practice PE skills, experience success, and develop healthy habits while staying active and having fun.

  • Battle of the Books

    Do you love reading, teamwork, and a little friendly competition? Then Battle of the Books is the club for you! Students will meet Monday through Wednesday to read exciting books from this year's Battle of the Books reading list. Along the way, they'll participate in fun activities, answer trivia-style questions, and build their knowledge of each book while sharpening their reading and comprehension skills. Throughout the year, students will work together to prepare for the Battle of the Books competition in the spring, where they'll put their reading knowledge to the test against other teams. Whether you're already a book lover or looking to discover some amazing new stories, Battle of the Books is a fun way to read, make friends, and be part of an exciting team. Come join the adventure—every book brings you one step closer to the Battle!

    It is your chance to take something you’re curious about and turn it into an awesome experiment! At the Science Fair, you’ll choose your own topic, ask a question, test your ideas, and discover the answer for yourself. Whether you’re into sports, animals, food, plants, technology, or figuring out how things work, there’s a project for you! Get creative, try something new, and have fun showing everyone what you discovered. Bring your curiosity and your best ideas—the Science Fair is your chance to explore, experiment, and have fun!

    Calling all Fourth and Fifth Grade students! Join the Science Fair and turn your curiosity into discovery through fun experiments and creative projects. The top 10 projects will represent our school at the District Science Fair, and district winners will advance to the County Science Fair!

  • STEAM Olympiad

    Students will work work on STEAM Olympiad game events using skill and strategies to navigate through Mancala, Circle Tic Tac Toe, Contig, Sudoku, as well Codebusters. Students will work collaboratively and independently to become stronger critical thinkers to strategize each game. They will practice skills such as counting, mathematical operations, patterns, and deciphering codes.

  • STEAM Olympiad: Engineering Events

    Students will participate in hands-on STEAM engineering challenges through the Mousetrap Vehicle and Ping Pong Parachute competitions. Students will design, build, test, and improve their creations while developing problem-solving, teamwork, creativity, and engineering skills. Students will compete in a school-level competition, with top-performing students selected for the opportunity to represent the school at district and/or county STEAM Olympiad events.
