Powerful Outcomes in Wellness, Education, & Recreation (POWER) is an after school program that has been recognized for excellence throughout Region 8 (Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Ventura, and Kern Counties). We’ve been invited numerous times to present at conferences across our region and state, and have been highlighted and visited by many different after school entities. We provide safe, effective, innovative, & engaging learning, nutrition, and physical activity programs for DUSD students in grades TK-8.

Parents, please make sure to check the grade levels on classes before registering.

Please note that students that register for classes later than 2:30pm will have to be picked up after school and dropped off for their class unless they attend the after school POWER program.

  • After School Recess

    Students will engage in outdoor activities and playtime with the use of bubbles, bouncing balls, sand toys, and so much more.

  • Imagination Station

    Imagination Station is a play-based course for 1st and 2nd grade students to focus on imagination, creativity and social development. Students will participate in role-playing, building and creative play.

  • Diamond Painting

    The Elementary Diamond Painting class is designed to introduce young students to the art of diamond painting in a fun and engaging way. Participants will choose from easy-to-follow patterns and vibrant beads, making it suitable for all skill levels.

  • Yearbook

    This course introduces students to the exciting world of yearbook creation, blending creativity, teamwork, and storytelling. Young learners will explore the basics of photography, page design, and layout while developing skills in writing captions, headlines, and short feature stories. Students will also learn how to work collaboratively, meet deadlines, and make design choices that reflect the spirit of their school year.

  • Stage Crew and Set Design

    Stage Crew & Set Design Class In this class, students will get a behind-the-scenes look at how musicals come to life! Kids will learn how to be part of the stage crew, helping with lights, sound, props, and moving scenery. They’ll also get to use their creativity to help design and set up backgrounds that make the stage look magical. From painting scenery to learning how to change sets quickly and safely, students will discover how important stage crew is to making every show a success. It’s the perfect class for kids who like to build, create, and be part of a team that brings the show to life!

  • Beginning Felt Sewing

    Easy to sew arts & crafts with Ms. Patty. Guiding students in learning basic life skills through basic needle threading and sewing felt. Students will help develop children’s thinking attention, patience, recognition, creativity, hand-eye coordination, and fine motor skills.

  • How to Draw

    Students will follow how to videos to draw characters, cute foods, cartoons, and fun objects. Each student will have their own drawing pad and set of dual tip markers. Students will make mini canvases.

  • Shelf Care Club

    Join our Shelf Care Club after school! This is a quiet and cozy time for all readers to enjoy books and grow their reading skills. 3rd Grade Battle of the Books participants can use this time to prepare for upcoming competitions. Other students can relax with a good book, take AR quizzes, or work on Lexia to boost their reading progress. Come read, learn, and have fun with friends who love books as much as you do!

  • Beauty and The Beast

    From talking teapots to cursed castles, Beauty and the Beast comes alive in this course as we dive into love, change, and looking past first impressions.

  • Intro to Piano

    A beginner friendly course designed for students with little or no prior experience. This course introduces the fundamentals of piano playing, including note reading, basic music theory, and rhythm.

  • Choreography

    This class brings the magic of Beauty and the Beast to life through expressive, Broadway-style choreography. Students will learn character-driven movement, musicality, and stage presence while working together to tell the story through dance.

  • Health & Wellness

    The health and wellness program is designed to help 4th and 5th grade students build lifelong healthy habits through engaging, age-appropriate lessons and activities. The after school program emphasizes physical, mental, and social well-being while encouraging students to make safe and responsible choices at home and at school. Through interactive discussions and reflections, students will build the knowledge and skills needed to support a healthy balanced lifestyle.

  • Garden Club

    Garden Club is a fun, hands-on club where students get to dig, plant, and grow! Students will learn how plants grow, take care of our school garden and flower beds, and work together while enjoying time outdoors.   • GATE

    The students will continue to be learning about the Solar System. They will be making a 3D model, do a short research paper about one of the planets, and create artwork that represents their planet. They will also design a tri-fold board to display at the GATE Festival in April.

    Students will strengthen their understanding of key 5th grade math skills and concepts through targeted practice and support. The focus will be on building confidence, improving problem-solving strategies, and mastering essential topics such as fractions, decimals, multiplication, division, and basic geometry. This intervention provides extra time and guidance to help students grow as mathematicians.
