Morningside Mariners

Powerful Outcomes in Wellness, Education, & Recreation (POWER) is an after school program that has been recognized for excellence throughout Region 8 (Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Ventura, and Kern Counties). We’ve been invited numerous times to present at conferences across our region and state, and have been highlighted and visited by many different after school entities. We provide safe, effective, innovative, & engaging learning, nutrition, and physical activity programs for DUSD students in grades TK-8.

  • Morningside Running Club

    Morningside Running Club

    Morningside Running Club is open to all students 1-5. It is a club where students practice running short and long distances to prepare for competitions held around Kern County. Morningside Running Club is an excellent opportunity for students to have fun and exercise.

    Robots

    Building your own robot and controlling them can be a blast! You get to combine creativity, engineering, and programming. Here are some fun aspects: Design: You can customize the robot's look and functionality. From choosing materials to deciding on the size and shape, the design phase is all about your imagination. Coding: Programming the robot to navigate, respond to obstacles, or even follow lines can be really rewarding. It’s like giving your creation a brain! Challenges: You can set up obstacle courses or races to test your robot's capabilities. Competing against friends or other teams adds an exciting element. Learning: You’ll pick up valuable skills in robotics, coding, and problem-solving. Plus, it’s a great way to understand how different sensors and motors work. Collaboration: Working with others on a project can lead to new ideas and approaches. It’s a great way to share knowledge and techniques.

    Japanese Anime Cub: Do you want to learn how to draw manga? Would you like to speak and write in Japanese? Perhaps you dream in becoming a pop star idol? Join our karaoke session! How about learn about the culture and music that makes Japan so much fun! In this club, we will discuss and try to experience every aspect of Japanese culture, anime, manga, dance, fashion, food, music, art, and language. This club will promote multiculturalism, enhance language skills, foster creativity, develop social skills, and provide a safe space for expression and creativity.

    GATE

    Get ready to unravel the mysteries of Prehistoric Life. Students will participate in a special dinosaur research project. They will do the following: role-play being scientists discovering different types of dinosaurs, simulate a fossil site by labeling items, and putting them together. The culminating activity will be creating “The Dinosaur Story.”
