Morningside Mariners

Powerful Outcomes in Wellness, Education, & Recreation (POWER) is an after school program that has been recognized for excellence throughout Region 8 (Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Ventura, and Kern Counties). We’ve been invited numerous times to present at conferences across our region and state, and have been highlighted and visited by many different after school entities. We provide safe, effective, innovative, & engaging learning, nutrition, and physical activity programs for DUSD students in grades TK-8.

  • Morningside Running Club

    Morningside Running Club

    Morningside Running Club is open to all students 1-5. It is a club where students practice running short and long distances to prepare for competitions held around Kern County. Morningside Running Club is an excellent opportunity for students to have fun and exercise.

    Arts and Crafts

    Students will learn about traditional and contemporary crafts, and produce art objects that are both functional and decorative.

    Students may use movement and games to develop their appreciation for music.

    Student will develop the motor skills needed to write letters, words, and sentences. They will practice proper pencil grip, and position of the arm and wrist while writing cursive.

    Crochet with Me

    In this course you will learn the basics of crocheting. Students will learn to crochet by making hats, scarves, messenger bags, friendship bracelets, fingerless mitts, hair accessories, decorations and more.

    Japanese Anime Club

    Japanese Anime Cub: Do you want to learn how to draw manga? Would you like to speak and write in Japanese? Perhaps you dream in becoming a pop star idol? Join our karaoke session! How about learn about the culture and music that makes Japan so much fun! In this club, we will discuss and try to experience every aspect of Japanese culture, anime, manga, dance, fashion, food, music, art, and language. This club will promote multiculturalism, enhance language skills, foster creativity, develop social skills, and provide a safe space for expression and creativity.

    Origami Plus

    Origami, the art of paper folding, offers a range of benefits for students across various aspects of their development. Here’s how it can be particularly advantageous: Enhances Fine Motor Skills Boosts Cognitive Abilities Encourages Patience and Perseverance Promotes Creativity Facilitates Learning in Geometry and Mathematics Improves Memory and Concentration Fosters a Sense of Accomplishment Encourages Collaborative Learning Provides Stress Relief Overall, integrating origami into educational activities can be a fun and effective way to support various aspects of students' development. For advanced students that may finish early they will be working on 3d puzzles.
