Pioneer School is proud to offer Powerful Outcomes in Wellness, Education, & Recreation. POWER PLUS is an after school program that has been recognized for excellence throughout Region 8 (Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Ventura, and Kern Counties). At Pioneer, we provide safe, effective, innovative, & engaging learning, nutrition, and physical activity programs for DUSD students in grades TK-8. We want all of our students to get connected after school with a course they are interested in learning more about or for the first time. All your child needs is a spark of interest and we are convinced that they will find the perfect course that will grow their passion for learning something that isn’t typically taught during the regular school day hours.

  • Mrs. Frost's Kindergarten Book Club

    (Not recommended for TK due to reading) Ever wanted to get to do the activities you see characters doing in books?! In Book Club we do just that, and we practice our sight words with reading games each day. We get to do experiments, arts, crafts, outdoor activities, and practice our reading skills to be ready for 1st grade!

    Feeling Bored? Then come have fun and play with us. Backyard games involves anything you would be able to play in the backyard.     Learn a few basic open chords, such as C, G, D, A, and E. These chords are foundational in many songs and will help you get a feel for chord transitions. Begin with basic strumming patterns. Understand the difference between downstrokes (strumming from the top string down) and upstrokes (from the bottom string up)

  • Garden Club

    The Garden Club will teach the Science and Art of growing vegetables, fruits, flowers, & ornamental plants. Our Garden Club will learn how to design & plan their future gardens. They will do this all while working with the seasons in the Pioneer Garden. Our students will indoor seed start in Winter, transplant seedlings in Spring, & harvest in Summer. The Garden Club will also learn about the different life cycles of plants, & many other lessons.

    Students will work independently on hands-on projects while also receiving feedback and guidance to complete their work. The goal is for students to explore these mediums and develop a sense of direction and unique expression to ultimately develop and pursue a more individualized style of preference in the arts.

    In Creative Builders, students will explore creativity and engineering through LEGO building while also engaging in sports and outdoor activities. But every so often, they’ll step away from their builds to play sports like soccer, basketball, and relay races, promoting teamwork, coordination, and physical fitness.     Have you ever wondered what to do with all those pictures on your phone? Well, let's use them to create something memorable. In this class, you will learn how to design and create beautiful scrapbook pages.We will be using stickers, scrapbook designed paper, washi tape and other exciting tools to make your pages tell a visual story. We will also be using cameras to take pictures during the current school year so you can cherish the memories and be able to look back fondly on people or specific events from the 2024-2025 school year.     Hey book lovers! Want to create a mini scene from your favorite book? In this class we make real life miniature size houses based on books. It is engaging and relaxing, so bring a buddy with you! This class encourages patience, attention to detail, and it's for those who love DIY projects. We will be working with miniature size pieces of wood, paper, and some may have LED lights to light up your mini creation.

    This hands-on course explores the art of building with LEGO and other creative construction materials. Through guided projects and open-ended challenges, students will develop problem-solving skills and creativity.
