Pioneer School is proud to offer Powerful Outcomes in Wellness, Education, & Recreation. POWER PLUS is an after school program that has been recognized for excellence throughout Region 8 (Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Ventura, and Kern Counties). At Pioneer, we provide safe, effective, innovative, & engaging learning, nutrition, and physical activity programs for DUSD students in grades TK-8. We want all of our students to get connected after school with a course they are interested in learning more about or for the first time. All your child needs is a spark of interest and we are convinced that they will find the perfect course that will grow their passion for learning something that isn’t typically taught during the regular school day hours.

Garden Club
The Garden Club will teach the Science and Art of growing vegetables, fruits, flowers, & ornamental plants. Our Garden Club will learn how to design & plan their future gardens. They will do this all while working with the seasons in the Pioneer Garden. Our students will indoor seed start in Winter, transplant seedlings in Spring, & harvest in Summer. The Garden Club will also learn about the different life cycles of plants, & many other lessons.

Science Fair
Students will complete a science fair project investigation that uses the scientific method to answer a scientific question. The scientific method involves these steps: Identify the problem: Decide what you want to learn and focus on that material. Research the problem: Find out what others have learned and use that information to make an educated guess, or hypothesis. Design an experiment: Design an experiment that will test your hypothesis and either support or disprove it. Conduct the experiment: Take the steps you need to answer your question. Analyze the data: Record and analyze your results, being specific and using numbers. Reach a conclusion: State what your project contributes to the area you worked in and whether you met your objectives.

Making Memories
Have you ever wondered what to do with all those pictures on your phone? Well, let's use them to create something memorable. In this class, you will learn how to design and create beautiful scrapbook pages.We will be using stickers, scrapbook designed paper, washi tape and other exciting tools to make your pages tell a visual story. We will also be using cameras to take pictures during the current school year so you can cherish the memories and be able to look back fondly on people or specific events from the 2024-2025 school year.
