Powerful Outcomes in Wellness, Education, & Recreation (POWER) is an after school program that has been recognized for excellence throughout Region 8 (Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Ventura, and Kern Counties). We’ve been invited numerous times to present at conferences across our region and state, and have been highlighted and visited by many different after school entities. We provide safe, effective, innovative, & engaging learning, nutrition, and physical activity programs for DUSD students in grades TK-8.

Parents/Guardians, please make sure to check the grade levels on classes before registering. Please note that students that register for classes that start 3:45pm or after will have to be picked up after school and dropped off for their class(es) unless they attend the after school POWER program.

  • ELA Intervention

    ELA Intervention will provide students with extra support to strengthen the skills they learn in their regular ELA class. They will get more practice, deeper instruction, and guidance to help them improve and succeed in reading and writing.

    Students will be working on mastering current standards and the base skills necessary for success in those standards. Students will work using manipulatives as well as computers and on paper, and will be going over current work to identify errors in thinking.

  • Oral Language Festival

    The Oral Language Festival is a competitive event where students recite and perform an interpretation of a piece of children's literature. It is a wonderful opportunity for students to creatively express their love of literature using dramatic speaking skills. In addition, students gain confidence to perform for an audience.

    Unleash your creativity and dive into the exciting world of T-shirt design with a STEM twist! In this hands-on course, students will explore the artistic process of designing custom T-shirts while integrating key STEM concepts. Learn how to use technology tools for digital design, understand the science behind fabric and color, and apply math skills to create balanced and scalable artwork. Through projects and experiments, students will develop problem-solving skills and gain confidence in combining creativity with STEM principles to bring their unique ideas to life on wearable art.   • Lego/Puzzle

    This hands-on class invites students to explore the exciting world of LEGO building and puzzle solving through the lens of STEM—Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Students will develop critical thinking, spatial reasoning, and problem-solving skills as they design and construct LEGO models and tackle a variety of puzzles. Through collaborative challenges and creative projects, learners will build confidence in applying STEM principles in a fun, interactive environment.

  • GATE: Roller Coaster World

    Get ready to transform into scientific sleuths in this exciting GATE enrichment class, where students tackle a simulated amusement park mystery by solving the perplexing problems of Roller Coaster World’s thrilling rides using the groundbreaking discoveries of Galileo, Newton, and other scientific pioneers. Through hands-on Design Tests, students gather contextual clues, form hypotheses, perform experiments, and draw conclusions while strengthening their scientific writing skills by documenting their findings in detailed science journals, all within an immersive experience that fosters critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity. The class culminates in a creative project in which students either design and build a roller coaster or plan an original theme park that applies scientific principles learned throughout the unit.
